Ordinary Cleaning

Use a clean, damp, non-abrasive cotton cloth and a mild liquid detergent or household cleaner and rinse with clean water, using a clean, non-abrasive cotton cloth.

Chemical Damage

Never use cleaners containing acid, alkali, or sodium hypochlorite. These cleaners will mar, etch, corrode, and permanently discolour the laminate surface.

NOTE:
Proper maintenance of laminates will increase its lifespan and thus maintaining its beauty for a longer period of time in the long run.

Do's for Laminates

High pressure laminates (HPL) are considered among the most durable decorative surface materials. Laminates are used for many areas of the home, such as kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities and other storage solutions. With an extensive range of colours, patterns and textures, laminates have become a highly popular material for interior design in Singapore. Arova provides a wide selection of laminates to interior designers and homeowners in Singapore. With more to choose from today, interior designers and homeowners can now explore creative interior design ideas.

Arova laminates are certified with Singapore Green Label, Gold Greenguard and Microban. Arova laminates are also resistant to heat, water and impact. With simple care, laminates can last for many years to come.

Here are four easy tips on keeping your laminates in tiptop shape. In this first part, we tell you do’s on caring for your laminates:

Dust Regularly
Dust can settle on laminate surfaces, particularly the textured ones. Over time, this can cause the laminates to look dull. Keeping your laminates dust-free is easy. Simply dust your laminate surfaces twice a month or so with a soft rag or standard duster. Remember to clean the surfaces inside and out so as to remove any dirt or dust build up on the surface.

Use Water And Liquid Hand Detergent/Liquid Hand Wash
If you do notice any small stains that can’t be cleaned off by dusting, the next step is to gently rub the stain away with a damp rag. Remember to use only a small amount of water. Allowing water to pool on the laminate cabinet joints runs the risk of causing damage to the surface material.

Wipe As Fast As Possible
In areas such as the bathroom and kitchen, some care is needed to prevent spills from staying on the surface. For instance, some foods leave marks more quickly than others. As delicious as they are, red wine and curry can leave stains on surfaces. Note that certain juices can too. To avoid staining, be sure to wipe the surface dry. For stubborn stains, use concentrated liquid hand detergent to clean.

Don'ts for Laminates

Arova provides a wide selection of high pressure laminates (HPL) in various colours, patterns and textures to homeowners, interior designers and architects in Singapore. Arova laminates are abrasion-proof and fade-proof. Arova laminates are also resistant to heat, water and impact.

As one of the most durable decorative surface materials, HPLs are used for many areas of the home. Many homeowners in Singapore favour HPLs for their kitchen cabinets, customised furniture and other bespoke interior design solutions for many reasons.

Following simple care tips and avoiding the following no-nos can ensure the long-lasting beauty of your laminates.

Avoid Gritty Liquid Cleaners
With HPLs, it’s not necessary to use gritty or abrasive liquid cleaners and cleaning powders. Non-abrasive liquid cleaners are sufficient for removing spills and stains.

No Bleach
Bleach or other caustic solutions can be too harsh for laminates. Should such solutions spill on the surface, wipe it up immediately and rinse several times with water.

Be Careful With Dyes
Many food colouring or hair and fabric dyes can leave stains on your HPL surfaces, so be careful when handling such liquids. Wipe colouring or dye spills with non-abrasive, concentrated liquid detergent.

Take Note Of Steel Wools
There’s no need to clean laminates with steel wool or other abrasive pads. These will also damage the laminate surface. Also remember not to store steel wool pads on your kitchen countertop. Rust can occur and leave stains on your laminate surface.

Handle Sharp Objects Carefully
Laminates are abrasion-proof, but the surface can be damaged when it comes in contact with sharp points and blades. Be careful when handling knives, scissors and other sharp objects and do not cut directly on the surface.

Don’t Spray Cleaners Directly
If your laminated furniture is fitted with glass windows, for example, avoid spraying glass cleaners directly onto the glass surfaces. The liquid may drip and seep into hard-to-reach edges and gaps and cause discolouration. Instead, to clean these glass surfaces, spray the glass cleaner onto the cloth or paper.
